After the discovery of America, El Puerto de Santa María became the place where Christopher Columbus prepared his second voyage to America and where the caravel Santa María was outfitted for the voyage. We will discover important buildings and places that were of vital importance at the time of the greatest economic boom in the history of El Puerto de Santa María thanks to the promotion of commercial activity with the Ruta Colombina, such as the old dock, the old fish market and the ducal and royal customs offices, among others.
What we are going to do?
Starting from the Plaza de Toros of El Puerto de Santa María, we will walk along the banks of the Guadalate River while we discover the importance of the area for trade at the time. We will also see iconic places of El Puerto, such as the old fish market, the customs offices and the old dock. We will continue to the Iglesia Mayor Prioral and finally, we will enter the Archivo de Indias, where we will see historical documents and learn about the history hidden in the building.
